Commercial Division

Fruit and/or pepper jams, jellies and/or butters made and sold for commercial use.

Amateur Division

Fruit jams, jellies, and/or butters that are made for home use only. 

*All pepper jams, jellies, and/or butters must be formally approved by the WV Department of Agriculture with proper documentation. Failure to show proof of documentation will result in a forfeit of flavor.

All participants will be provided with a reserved table, two (2) chairs, one (1) tablecloth, voting jars (up to 3), plastic teaspoons, and a waste bucket. Participants are welcome to bring any other decorations, displays, or signage desired to decorate their tables.

A cash award will be granted to Judge’s Choice (i.e., voted best by judge/judging panel) winners in each competition category (i.e., 1st Place Amateur: $500, 1st Place Commercial: $500). A plaque, trophy, or certificate will be provided to both People’s Choice (i.e., voted best by majority of public) and Wish Kid’s Choice winners (i.e., voted best by Make-a-Wish child/panel).

All jams, jellies, and/or butters must be pre-made prior to the event. Only pepper jams, jellies, and/or butters with proper documentation acquired from the WV Department of Agriculture (WVDOA) will be permitted. All amateur fruit jam, jelly, and/or butter ingredients must be reviewed and “OK” by the WVDOA prior to event. Under NO circumstances will jams, jellies, and/or butters be permitted to be made on site.

It is required that participants bring a minimum of 100 oz., or about 6 pints of product, to ensure participants do not run out. Tasting spoons will be provided, however, participants may provide their own tasting method if desired (e.g., crackers, biscuits, etc.).

Participants are only permitted to provide tastings when a ticket is handed over. All tickets must be tossed in a waste bucket once handed over and may not be used more than once.

Participants are allowed to showcase up to three (3) jams, jellies, and or butters; however, all tastings will require a ticket, therefore, if a person would like to try all three (3) jams, jellies, and/or butters, 3 tickets must be collected.

Participants will be required to chill all opened jams, jellies, and/or butters. Ice, bowls, and refrigeration will be provided. If participants wish to have a large cooling station at their table, participants will be responsible for providing their own coolers and ice.

Event will take place at Capitol Market in Charleston, WV (800 Smith St, Charleston, WV 25301) on Saturday, August 23rd from 10:00am to 2:00pm. Participants are allowed entry starting at 8:30am that day. Participants will be required to pay full registration fee prior to setting up. All participants must be on site by 9:30am day of.

Participants will be allowed to sell unopened products to the public during this community event. Proceeds of any personal sales will not be required to be donated to Make-A-Wish.
